Austral, an Australian shipbuilder and defence contractor, has reported a data breach in which personnel files from its data management system were hacked by an unknown hacker.
Austral, an Australian shipbuilder and defence contractor, has reported a data breach in which personnel files from its data management system were hacked by an unknown hacker. The hack that occurred in mid-October had compromised files containing ship drawings, staff email addresses, and mobile phone numbers. The hacker also resorted attempted extortion by threatening to sell the stolen data on the internet. Austal said that the breach affected only Australian business and did not extend to US projects. Investigations are ongoing.
