The University of Illinois (UIC) warned of gift cards email scams targeting faculty and employees last week. The scam emails appeared to come from university leaders like deans, directors, and department heads, but they were sent from random email addresses instead of the university’s legitimate email domain. Recipients were then asked to purchase gift cards on behalf of the university leaders and email back with the gift card codes.
