US Judge Approves Flowers Hospital’s Settlement Over 2014 Data Breach

A federal judge has approved a settlement between Alabama-based Flowers Hospital and the 1,200 patients whose data had been stolen from the hospital in 2014.

A federal judge has approved a settlement between Alabama-based Flowers Hospital and the 1,200 patients whose data had been stolen from the hospital in 2014. According to the settlement, Flowers Hospital will pay the patients up to US$150,000. The patients will be reimbursed for out-of-pocket credit monitoring costs, up to four hours in lost wages, and paid interest on income tax refunds delayed because of the breach. The federal lawsuit began in 2014 when a lab employee from Flowers Hospital was found routinely removing and selling patient files.
