Audit Rules Public Health System 'Highly vulnerable' to Cyber Attacks
An audit report has found that the Victoria's public health system in Australia is highly vulnerable to cyber attacks due to security weaknesses within the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS)’s technology arm, Health Technology Solution (HTS). HTS hosts key applications that are used by 61% of Victorian health services to manage medical records. However, the lack of data security among staff coupled with poor password management and user access controls meant that confidential health records could be easily obtained. The report added that the Victoria public health system is in a similar position to its counterparts in the UK (NHS) and Singapore (SingHealth) when they were respectively breached in 2017 and 2018.
