Three Universities Disclose Data Breaches
Three universities in the US have disclosed separate data breach incidents that leaked the personal information of students and employees following unauthorised access to their employees' email accounts. The Graceland University notified affected users that personal information including financial aid and salary details were leaked when hackers accessed the email accounts of current employees on three occasions. Similarly, the Oregon State University (OSU) also discovered a hacked email account, which contained the personal data of 636 students. The compromised email account was also used to send phishing emails to external parties. Meanwhile, the Missouri Southern State University (MSSU) suffered a phishing attack that successfully compromised several email accounts. MSSU forced a mass password reset to contain the incident and notified that personal information including social security number were exposed.
