Maritime Agency Found Vulnerable to Hackers
The US Maritime Administration (MarAd), an agency under the US Department of Transportation (DOT), is found to be susceptible to cyber intrusion during a recent audit. The agency’s internal system can be accessed from an old, unpatched vulnerability and sensitive personally identifiable information are easily accessible due to a lack of encryption for data at rest and inadequate privilege access controls. MarAd’s employees are also vulnerable to social engineering with 23% responding to phishing emails and furnishing their usernames and passwords.
