Over 100,000 Affected in Airline Phishing Attack
Air New Zealand is warning over 100,000 Airpoints members that their personal data may have been exposed during a recent phishing incident. The phishing attacks compromised the email accounts of two staff members, which allowed the hackers to access internal documents relating to membership profile such as Airpoints number, name and email. While no Airpoints account, password or credit card details are leaked during the incident, the exposed user information can be used against account holders in future phishing attacks to take over their accounts. Airlines’ frequent-flyer programmes are frequently targeted as the compromised accounts and rewards points can be monetised in the darknet market.
