Massive DDoS Attacks Take Out Online Banking Services
Major banks in South Africa have been hit by a series of distributed-denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks targeting consumer-facing services. The South African Banking Risk Information Centre (SABRIC) revealed that the attacks commenced on 23 October, accompanied with a ransom note sent to the targeted banks’ public email accounts. The DDoS attacks affected online banking services, which were subsequently restored within the day. No information has been compromised in the incident.
