A recent report indicated that cyberattacks against healthcare organisations jumped 60% in the first nine months of 2019, compared to the whole of 2018. Between the second and third quarters of 2019, cyber threats grew 45%, which were largely fuelled by Trojan activities from Emotet and TrickBot. Top attack methods included exploiting unpatched flaws in third-party software and using social engineering such as phishing emails to deliver malicious links and attachments. These attacks were financially motivated as cyber-criminals sought to steal protected health information or use ransomware to extort payment by disrupting medical services.
