Ransomware Hits State Government Systems
The state of Louisiana in the US has suffered a ransomware attack that affected numerous state services including the Office of Motor Vehicles, the Department of Health, and the Department of Transportation and Development. Louisiana's Office of Technology Services reacted quickly to the initial detection and shut down numerous web sites operated by the state as well as email and Internet services. The attack is similar to the ransomware incident on Louisiana school districts in July, which led to a declaration of state of emergency. Currently, the state government is restoring affected services and investigation is ongoing to determine the type of ransomware infection and how the attack took place.
