Intrusions at Lab Service Provider Affects 15 Million People
Canadian clinical laboratory services provider LifeLabs has announced a data breach that affected up to 15 million Canadians. An unauthorised user has gained access to systems contained personally identifiable information and protected health information. The nature of the unauthorised access was not disclosed but LifeLabs paid an undisclosed sum to the hacker to “secure the stolen data”. LifeLabs has since fixed the system issues related to the criminal activity and added improved data safeguards.
