17 - 24 December 2019

Singapore Ministry of Defence has confirmed that two appointed contractors were infected with malware delivered via phishing emails.

Singapore Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) has confirmed that two appointed contractors were infected with malware delivered via phishing emails. The malware incident at ST Logistics affected 2,400 MINDEF personnel whose personally identifiable information was stolen. Another contractor, HMI Institute of Health Sciences, suffered a ransomware attack that encrypted a file server containing personal information of over 120,000 individuals, including 98,000 military servicemen. No MINDEF/SAF systems are affected in both incidents but the Ministry will review the cybersecurity standards at appointed vendors to ensure servicemen’s personal data are protected.
