Warnings on Possible Iranian Cyberattacks

1 - 7 January 2020

The US government has issued warnings about potential Iranian cyberattacks targeting US assets.

The US government has issued warnings about potential Iranian cyberattacks targeting US assets, following the death of a senior Iranian military leader who was killed in a US airstrike. The US Department of Homeland Security highlighted that Iran maintained a robust cyber programme and could carry out attacks with temporary disruptive effects against critical infrastructure. So far, Iranian hackers have managed to deface the homepage for the US Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) and posted anti-US messages. However, the incident is believed to be the works of sympathisers rather than advanced persistence threat groups sponsored by the Iranian government.
